I had an interesting morning. First of all I drove for the first time since injuring my knee. It hurt to get into the truck, but once in I could drive fine. I was coming back from getting video footage out at Mata Gorda for a Micro Finance video I'm working on. While driving I suddenly came upon...well...I'll let the video tell the rest. Although it is a little pixelated, I would recommend watching it in full screen mode.
Sure glad you decided to yield right-of-way to the big guys!!! One never knows what to expect in a day. Keeps it interesting!! mom
ReplyDeleteYup, they held the entire herd hostage until they were done scrapping. If the one that charged would have hit the truck we would be needing a new radiator and misc. parts. I didn't think about my knee while retreating!

All I could hear was Billy Crystal singing RAWHIDE like he did in City Slickers.
ReplyDeleteI have been to a town in Romania twice where the cattle walk themselves home every night. People literally use the expression "Waiting until the cows come home" In the morning the farmer opens his gate and the cows walk to the pasture at the edge of town. Then in the evening they return home to be milked.

Hey Randy, What a hoot! So glad to know your knee is doing better. Just stay out of the way of those bulls.
ReplyDeletePraying for you, Lynn and Mark
Oh yeah,
ReplyDeleteI think many cattle in that herd wanted a piece of everyone that day. I heard later about a week earlier someone had been killed by an angry cow or bull. I remembered seeing a white cloth with a black plus or cross painted over it hanging from the top of a doorway. This signifies that someone died in that house hold. I don't know if it was the same person but it would make sense. But I was never in danger like that. The truck would have needed a lot of work though!
As for my knee, it is still quite sore. I think I'll go into the physical therapist for some swelling control help.
Thanks for your prayers :)
In God's Grace,
Randy
Scott n Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteThose sound like petting cows. I think out of the truck on foot, regardless of my knee there would have been some fast scurrying going on! These were not obedient cattle. The cowboys on horseback looked like they were just hoping things worked out in the end.
I bet the old guy from City Slickers would have tamed em though! What was his name? Curly or something like that. You know, the scary guy who died in the movie.
Randy
Yah, but Curley had a twin brother, Duke. He was even more of a bad [Burro] than Curley. FYI. Their mom died at the age of 95, she was stabbed in a bar fight. Tough Woman.
ReplyDeleteThe cows that we saw walked home at the rate of 2 MPH and when you stood in the middle of the road, they just looked at you like "dumb tourist", and walked on by.
Dude, there are some tough women here in the DR. I've seen some carrying things on their back, in their arms, and on their head all at the same time! And just going somewhere walking down the side of the road.
ReplyDeleteThe guy on the horse was looking at me like "dumb tourist, don't you know this could be bad"!

These cattle reminded me of the problems the bison cause at Yellowstone. They choose to walk on the road, they certainly have the right-of-way. Traffic comes to a screeching halt or inches along behind the herd until they decide on an alternate route to wherever they're going.
ReplyDeleteWindows should be rolled up or you'll find a bison's head in your window perhaps licking your face.
My friends just returned from their second mission to the DR. Two years each time. He's a doctor so was there to serve the people by doing some doctoring of course. They loved their time there and plan to do it again soon.
Hi NORMA!
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you :) Yuppers on the Bison in Yellowstone. They are beautiful to see but after a while a hassle when you have somewhere to be.
